Eaton’s FD85 Series Thread-to-Connect Coupling Lloyd’s Registry Certified, Ensuring Reliability in Oil and Gas Applications

EDEN PRAIRIE, MINN. … Power management company Eaton today announced that the FD85 Series thread-to-connect couplings in ?-inch and 1-inch sizes now carry a Lloyd’s Registry Certificate for oil and gas applications as a standard offering. The independent certification provides assurance that the couplings will perform to industry standards, which helps to reduce costly downtime due to equipment malfunction or failure.
Based on testing completed by a third party and witnessed by a Lloyd’s Registry auditor, Eaton’s FD85 Series thread-to-connect couplings are certified as capable of maintaining pressures when exposed to a temperature of 700 degrees Celsius for a five-minute period. The certification applies to those assemblies where both mating parts are Eaton FD85 Series thread-to-connect couplings.
“Lloyd’s Registry provides an industry-recognized stamp of approval that gives end users peace of mind that Eaton’s FD85 Series couplings will help minimize equipment failure,” said Canan Myers, product manager, Metals, Eaton. “Eaton is dedicated to developing products that improve uptime and enhance the safety and reliability of machinery, which helps customers address the more challenging recovery environments and increased risk in today’s changing oil and gas industry.”
The FD85 Series is a screw together, quick disconnect coupling commonly used in a variety of on- and off-shore oil and gas applications, including power units and drilling equipment. Offered in carbon steel, the couplings offer standard National Pipe Taper Fuel (NPTF) thread ends, with British Standard Parallel Pipe (BSPP) thread ends available on request. Found on equipment where demanding applications require operating pressures of 5,000 pounds per square inch (psi), the certification ensures that the couplings meet American Petroleum Institute (API) standard 16D Blow Out Preventer (BOP) and Energy and Utilities Board (EUB) directive 36 Appendix 3.
Eaton’s Hansen HKFR Series Blow Out Preventer Quick Disconnect Couplings are also Lloyd’s Registry certified to standard API 16D BOP and EUB directive 36.
